How do I set up an account with a broker?

To sell your shares with a broker, you need to change your shares from ‘Issuer sponsored’ (that is, the company holds the shares in your name under a SRN) to ‘broker sponsored’ (that is, the broker holds the shares in your name under a HIN).

By providing a broker with your SRN, as well as contact and other details, the broker will set up an account for you, create a unique HIN and then register those shares in your name with your HIN.

At all times the shares remain registered in your name, whether they be issuer sponsored (via a SRN) or broker sponsored (via a HIN).
